2026 API Upgrade
Overview
We are upgrading our APIs to align with Workiva’s transition from an older API version to their newer, modernized API platform.
Workiva has announced that several APIs currently used by FHB will begin deprecation in January, with full retirement targeted for January 31, 2027. To ensure uninterrupted service, continued support, and access to enhanced capabilities, we are proactively upgrading our system to use the newer API versions.
This upgrade is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure, reliable, and future-ready technology environment for our clients.
What Is Changing?
Workiva is retiring certain older version APIs and replacing them with an updated, modern API structure.
The older APIs were originally released to support early functionality but were not intended for long-term enterprise use. They allowed FHB to innovate and provide solutions on the cutting edge of technology. The newer APIs represent fully supported, stable, and strategically aligned services, which will enable FHB to continue to move forward innovating for our clients.
FHB will work with clients throughout 2026 to move from the older API endpoints to the newer version ahead of the January 31, 2027 retirement date.
Why We Are Making This Upgrade
We are making this change for three primary reasons:
Vendor Requirement
Workiva is formally deprecating the older API versions beginning this January, with full retirement scheduled for January 31, 2027. Continuing to use deprecated API versions would eventually result in service disruptions.
Stability and Long-Term Support
The newer API version is fully supported by Workiva, including defined service levels, maintenance cycles, and ongoing enhancements. Older versions do not offer the same level of long-term stability.
Risk Mitigation
Upgrading now allows for a smooth, controlled transition instead of a last-minute migration closer to the retirement date.
Benefits of the Upgrade
This transition provides several important benefits:
New Features: The modern API platform includes new, more capable APIs that streamline developer calls, increase functionality, and better support enterprise-scale use.
Ongoing Vendor Support: The new APIs will receive ongoing updates and long-term support, ensuring faster issue resolution and future sustainability.
Future Compatibility: Moving to the newer API platform ensures alignment with Workiva enhancements and new capabilities as they are released.
Reduced Operational Risk: Adopting the updated APIs well before the January 31, 2027 retirement date eliminates risks associated with using outdated endpoints.
